It’s been so long that a novel made me want to finish it within a day that I almost thought I couldn’t do it anymore. 7 years after first being recommended ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’, I finally got a chance to read it. Up until I finished the book, I was under the impression that the book was written by an actual geisha, only to realize my assumption was incorrect. Perhaps, it is too far-fetched to lead a life with as many dramatic events as little Chiyo-chan is supposed to have been a principal character in. Though, I wouldn’t count the book as one of my favorites, the enchanting and mysterious life of a geisha is presented with vivid descriptions of the exotic clothing and jewelry, to help you imagine Gion and Sayuri’s life right as they were. ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ is yet another of those stories which give away the climax right in the introduction and then leave the reader to connect the chain of events with the end as they unfold.
Overall, the book deserves its place in the must-read list of lovers of good stories.
