On my birthday, I usually do nothing. Last year, I spent the first half of the day at the hospital, getting my infection checked. Nothing serious, just that it is a government hospital and the queues are long. I was reading a book as I waited. Chatted with the nurses. The doctor asked me if I was above 21. I mentioned that I turn 21 today. She didn’t wish me though. That was fine. She didn’t have to.

The second half of the day, I spent at home. Studying. Did I mention I like studying? It’s fun. I did have chole bhature which my mom cooked. My aunt had come to visit us, she baked a cake for me. I’d like to say it was specially for my birthday, but it wasn’t. She bakes me a cake every time she visits. Everybody knows I love cakes.

People had wished me during the night. Some wished during the day. My best friend asked why I didn’t do anything special, ever. So I invited him over to have chole bhature.

I liked that it was a normal day. It didn’t rain though. I like rains on my birthday. It always rains. Usually, it’s the first rain of the season.

It rained two days later.
